Someone suggested using a command line function in WinSCP, but I don't think I can transfer my files from my computer to the hardrive that's connected to the Pi through the command/shell. I've tried to read other threads to figure this out but I can't find much or get any clarification. I'm trying to use WinSCP to transfer things like I have in the past, but I keep getting a "error 3: permission denied" message. My issue is, when I have new media on my computer that I want to put on my hardrive (so it can show up in plex library), I would rather not have to The file permissions are shown as 'rwxrwxrwx' and the owner of the file is 'pi'. So I'm using an old pi of mine as a plex server: I have a hardrive with all my media on it plugged into said pi, and this is my main source of all my movies, pics, etc. Some more info: From winscp I have the right to delete the file. ![]() The best thing? It means that literally everyone and everything can read, write, and execute the directory and everything below it. Note: chmod 777 is a dangerous permission setting. The command you want is: sudo chmod 777 -R PiFmRds/src. Pi project ideas: There's a huge list right here on this sub! As already mentioned -R is not a permission, rather its an option that sets the recursive mode on. Works until reboot, then the owner of the folder is back to root. Removed the link between /home/pi/HDD and the external hard drive, changed permissions on the folder with chown command.
